Saying “NO” to Things You Know You Can’t Do, and is Wrong

By Beatrix C.

Saying “NO,” isn’t as easy as it sounds. And that’s no joke. Here are some simple things that you can do that can help you learn to say “NO” to the things you know are wrong, or you can’t do:
1. Assessing the situation- Ponder and examine the situation. If you know it’s really bad, wrong, or something you’re not supposed to do, don’t do it. For example, “Hey, Monique, want a cigarette?” She thought about it. “No thanks, smoking is not good for you.” Then she walked away. But then there’s the, “But it sounds so cool!” Or, “Everyone’s doing it!” Oh really, huh? So if everyone jumped off a cliff would you do so as well? Well, then you go, “Well, no. Who would do that?” Okay and? It’s the same thing as someone offering you a cigarette. Just because everybody else is doing, doesn’t mean you have to.
2. Ask for advice or help- If you’re unsure of what to do, say “I’ll think about it.” Walk away, than go seek a trusted adult’s advice. Like your parents, or pastor, or if no people are available, you can still ask God.
