Valentine's Day, By Mikayla T.

Valentine's Day

By Mikayla T.

Most people celebrate Valentine's day, don't they? People such as us kids give out treats or Valentine's to our classrooms. Valentine's Day is a day when you show your love to one another.

In 1 Corinthians 13, God talks about love. Here are some verses from 1 Corinthians 13. Verse 4 says: "Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud." Also, verse 8 says: "Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away."

Well, God is love; He shows His love to you everyday. So Valentine's Day is everyday for God. Don't just show love on Valentine's Day - show it everyday. It could be simple, like telling someone you love them, or that you appreciate them, or showing kindness, even loving your enemies. It`s hard to show your love to your enemies but....God always shows His love to you and He never gives up! I know it's hard to do all of this, but you can work on it bit by bit.

Valentine’s Day Special, By Emma G.

Valentine’s Day Special

By Emma G.

“Give thanks to the God of Heaven. His love endures forever”
PSALM 136:26
The year is 279AD, you’re in Rome and you’ve just met the love of your life. The sun is shining, the birds are tweeting and you’re skipping along until you stop, dead in your tacks. You’ve just remembered, marriage has been banned-all single men are being packed off to the army, now what?
There was one priest called Valentine. He loved God and knew that marriage was from God; he’d been secretly
marrying couples anyway. On February 14th he was caught and executed- leaving a love note for the jailer’s daughter before he died. Since then, lovers have been exchanging notes, cards and gifts on this day and so it has become known as Valentine’s Day. So how about you? Did the postman pull a muscle trying to squeeze your vast mountains of cards through the letterbox, or was it as expected, no secret admirers and the one person you thought might spend $1 on a card forgot or ‘thought you weren’t bothered about that sort of thing!’

Before you get too depressed or excited, remember one thing- God loves you and reckons you’re amazing! ‘Huh, little consolation’ you’re thinking? Well Jesus did more than send you a poxy WHSmith card with a cheesy rhyme. How’s this for a Valentine message? ‘I love you so much that I will give my life so that if you believe in me then you won’t die but live forever’. Now that’s true love- “God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, Jesus Christ, so that whoever believes in Him may not be lost, but have eternal life!” (John 3:16). God loves you so much that He actually let His Son Jesus give up His life for you! And now, you’re free to spend all of eternity with him.
Try to spend some time today thinking about Jesus’ passion for you, the ultimate act of love. Remember, there is no greater love than that- you can’t possibly be more loved by anyone. God IS love, true love comes from Him and through Him and by Him. On this day, when love is celebrated; remember to tell Him how much you love Him too!

What Does "Love" Really Mean? By Courtney

What Does "Love" Really Mean?

By Courtney S.

Love, what does the word love really mean? On Bible Gateway it pulls up 695 verses of the Bible with love in it. One of my very favorite Bible verses, John 3:16 reads: For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, Jesus Christ to die for us. Webster's dictionary defines love as: A unselfish, loyal, and benevolent concern for the good of another. That is exactly how God feels for us. Even though we are sinful people he loves us unconditionally. He loves us even when we don't love him.

In the English language, love is used in so many different ways. I sign love, Courtney to my friends. I say, "I love yo," to my Grandma. On Valentine's day when you have to give cards to all the people in your class including, people you probably have never talked to, you sign Love, whatever your name is. I like how one of the CGC members named Allison signs her emails: Jesus Loves You! Allison.

I was on the Brio magazine website and I read an article that said how love was used way to carelessly. Star struck girls say: I love Zac Efron or I love Jesse McCartney. Do you really? How can you love someone unconditionally and unselfishly who you don't even know?  On movies, girls go on dates with the cutest guy at school and they come home saying I'm in love. The next day the guy, doesn't remember her. I don't think that is unconditional love. Do you? That just means the guy romanced her. In other words she bought into his flirtatious behavior. She fell for his trap. That is all that is.

I would love to hear your thoughts please send your comments and questions!

Remember Jesus is love,
Courtney S.
