See you at the Pole

See you at the Pole

By Beatrix C.
Tuesday afternoon, after school, I was walking down to the area where my dad picks me up. At the corner of where I turned right, was a lady who had papers in her hand. She smiled at me and handed me a paper while explaining to me that there were free drinks and snacks a little ways ahead. I really wasn't paying attention because I was fascinated by her British accent, but after I got over it, I examined the paper she had given me. It was about a Bible study that was being held at the small church there in the lot. As I came closer, I could hear Christian music being blasted from some speakers. I looked up from the paper to see a few tables set up in front of the church. A man greeted me with a smile and offered me a snack and drink. I accepted with a smile on my face. I sat down and munched on my snacks while other students made their way over. Sitting there, I overhead one of the adults talking to another student. It was about See You at The Pole. I had heard about this in Sunday school just days ago. My curiosity was piqued. When the man was done talking with the student, I asked him about it. He explained to me that the CIA (Christ In Action) club was going to meet at 6:45 the next morning for the international pray around the pole. Now, I was very curious as I had heard about the CIA club that my high school had.
So I told my dad about it and he was on board. The next day (Wednesday), we woke up right at the crack of dawn and got to school by 6:30. It was really cool! Quite a few kids showed up, a few teachers, and my dad decided he wanted to do it with us. We all gathered in a circle, held hands, and prayed about the school and our country amongst other things. I leaned that this year was the 25th anniversary since it had been started all those years ago by 10 students. Later today, I learned that when my dad went over to my younger siblings' school and my dad mentioned it. My siblings' school the had their first pray around the pole.
I thought this was really cool and wanted to share this with y'all. If you don't have this at your school, or this is the first you've heard of it, why don't you go start it at your school next year? Get it going. It's an experience you wouldn't want to miss. c:

Mother's Day - By Beatrix C.

Mother's Day

By Beatrix C.

Mother's Day: The day where America decided to honor our country's moms. This is a good thing, too; mothers are very important in a family. Without them, they would likely fall to pieces. Never mind the fact they gave us life.

Jesus honored his mother by helping the couple who was getting married. It was because of her that the first miracle was set into motion, by Mary asking Jesus for help when the marriage they were at ran out of wine (John 2:1-11).

Like Jesus did, we should honor our mothers and do what they ask us to do. Even the Bible tell us to, in the 10 commandments. "Honor thy father and thy mother," Exodus 20:12.

We have a lot to be thankful for. Moms are great. They clean up your "ouches," they feed you, and read you bedtime stories; they do a lot. You may not appreciate your mom now, but you will in the future. Trust me, you will.

Halloween, By Beatrix C.

Hi, Hillary Beth here! I asked the GGFG writers to share their thoughts on Halloween. As you think about this subject and more, reflect on these verses: Romans 12:2 and 1 Peter 3:15.

Halloween

By Beatrix C.

Many Christians that “celebrate” Halloween often ask, “What’s wrong with Halloween?” Besides the fact it’s meant to celebrate the Devil, demons, monsters and such, I personally don’t think Halloween is a holiday any Christian should “celebrate.” Perhaps participating in trick or treating, and only that, is okay - which a lot of Christian families do. I don’t go trick or treating, though; my family believes that anything that has to do with Halloween is a no-no. But that’s my family; it’s not yours.

If it was a church event, where you’d just have a party, a costume party, or something to that extent, cool! My old church used to throw a costume party. Sure, there were the creepy skeletons and zombie decorations and stuff, but you know, it’s Halloween – they’re trying to keep up a little “scariness” here!

Now, my family goes to Happy Fall Festivals instead. The festival that I’ve been going to for years is a lot of fun! There are lots of bounce houses, food, and games where you can win candy! That’s what I do. It’s a good substitute for trick or treating or Halloween, don’t you think?

Saying “NO” to Things You Know You Can’t Do, and is Wrong By Beatrix C.

Saying “NO” to Things You Know You Can’t Do, and is Wrong

By Beatrix C.

Saying “NO,” isn’t as easy as it sounds. And that’s no joke. Here are some simple things that you can do that can help you learn to say “NO” to the things you know are wrong, or you can’t do:
1. Assessing the situation- Ponder and examine the situation. If you know it’s really bad, wrong, or something you’re not supposed to do, don’t do it. For example, “Hey, Monique, want a cigarette?” She thought about it. “No thanks, smoking is not good for you.” Then she walked away. But then there’s the, “But it sounds so cool!” Or, “Everyone’s doing it!” Oh really, huh? So if everyone jumped off a cliff would you do so as well? Well, then you go, “Well, no. Who would do that?” Okay and? It’s the same thing as someone offering you a cigarette. Just because everybody else is doing, doesn’t mean you have to.
2. Ask for advice or help- If you’re unsure of what to do, say “I’ll think about it.” Walk away, than go seek a trusted adult’s advice. Like your parents, or pastor, or if no people are available, you can still ask God.

Boredom, By Beatrix C.

Boredom

By Beatrix C.

Raise your hand if summer has actually been boring. (You can do it in your head if you want.) Raise your hand if you miss school. And finally, raise your hand if you wish school was all year round with breaks in between.

I have raised my hand for all 3 of them. I am truly bored. I miss school. school gave me something to do. At home its like: ...........cricket, cricket.........cricket, cricket...... I mean occasionally, we go to Hawaiian Falls. (We are today.) But when I get home: ...........cricket, cricket.........cricket, cricket...... I think you get the picture. There is absolutely nothing to do. So I thought, anyways. There is always talking to God. Reading the Bible. Singing praising songs to Him. And lately I've been doing a few of those things. It works. I'm not bored.

I mean how can you be bored when you're in God's presence? There are still chores to do (which I dread most of the time). Some of the chores are actually fun to do. Like washing the car, cleaning up my room. (The reason why cleaning up my room isn't boring is because I find lots of stuff I've "lost" in the past, :P)

Anyways, if you're ever bored, just go talk to God. Sing to Him, pray to Him. Or when you're actually doing fun stuff, invite Him to be with you. You know, like in your head or just plain out loud say: God, why don't you join me? Sure He's already there. He's everywhere. But to invite Him. To let Him know you want Him to be there, when you're doing something that doesn't really focus on God, well I guess it would make Him smile. To know that you want to be with Him. :)

:P Chow!
