Serving and Worshiping the Lord
By Megan H.
I am one who enjoys to sing and praise the Lord. Doesn't matter if I am
in my room sitting or doing chores around the house; I am always
singing, praying, or thinking about God and what I can do to please Him.
Isaiah 25:1
O Lord, Thou art my God; I will exalt thee, I will praise thy name, for
thou hast done wonderful things, thy counsel of old are faithfulness and
truth.
The Bible also speaks of praising only God.
Exodus 20:3-5
Thou shalt have no other gods before me. Thou shalt not make unto thee
any graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above,
or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the
earth: thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the
Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers
upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate
me.
Revelation 22:8-9
And I John saw these things, and heard them. And when I heard and seen, I
fell down to worship before the feet of the angel which showed me these
things. Then he saith unto me, See thou do it not: for I am thy fellow
servant, and of thy brethren the prophets, and of them which keep the
sayings of this book: Worship God.
Make sure to not worship things around you. Even though we do not have
idols to bow to, we still can think and dwell on things more than we
should, or more than we think and dwell on God.
Matthew 22:37
Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
Be Who You Are No Matter What
By Megan H.
Have you ever thought: "Oh wow! Those kids are so cool!" or "I would
give anything to sit with the cool kids"? Have you ever been made fun of
for acting differently, dressing differently, or for your beliefs? Do
you consider yourself weird and awkward when you're around normal
people?
Do you try to change the way you act when around people to seem more
cool? I'll tell you something; you can't change who you are. Instead of
trying to change who you to please others, why not try to be a witness
to others? Let your light shine....
"Ye are the salt of the earth: But if the salt have lost his flavor,
wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to
be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. Ye are the light of
the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid. Neither do men
light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it
giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine
before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father
which is in heaven." Matthew 5:13-16
Don't try to hide who you are. Don't try to hide the fact that you are a
Christian just so people won't treat you differently or make fun of
you.
"For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words, of him shall the
son of man be ashamed, when he shall come in his own glory, and in his
Father's, and of the holy angels." Luke 9:26
Don't let people influence you or try to change who you are.
"My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not." Proverbs 1:10
Any friend who tries to change you or tells you things to try to get you
to change, really isn't a friend at all. A true friend accepts you for
who you are. And if they try to change you or get you to do things that
you know deep down aren't right, just remember these verses...
"And this I say, lest any man should beguile you with enticing words.
For though I be absent in the flesh, yet I am with you in the spirit,
joying and beholding your order, and the steadfastness of your faith in
Christ. As ye have there received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in
him: Rooted and built up in him, an established in the faith, as ye have
been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving." Colossians 2:4-7
Also a sure way to avoid that from happening is to just not hang around
those types of people. Not to change the subject, but, people will
always treat you differently when you follow Christ.
"Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for
theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are ye, when men shall revile
you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you
falsely, for my sake. Rejoice, and be exceedingly glad: for great is
your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were
before you." Matthew 5:10-12
Look at the prophets and disciples;many were beaten, imprisoned, and killed.I often think of Stephen and what all he endured.
"And they cast him out of the city, and stoned him: and the witnesses
laid down their clothes at a young man's feet, whose name was
Saul(who,if you remember, became Paul, the apostle). And they stoned
Stephen, calling upon God, and saying Lord Jesus, Receive my spirit. And
he kneeled down, and cried with a loud voice, Lord, lay not this sin to
their charge. and when he said this, he fell asleep." Acts 7:58-60
Even in all that pain he was going through, he still forgave them. Even
no there are men, woman, and children who a beaten and imprisoned; and
in some instances they are even killed. One day all Christians will be
persecuted. many things will happen as the end of the world draws near;
that being one of them.
"Then they will deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall be kill
you:and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake." Matthew
24:9
"And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved" Mark 13:13
What ever the persecution, by friends, enemies, the government, etc.
never deny who you really are or that you are a Christian. Don't know
about you but I'd rather be like Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego (Daniel
3) than Peter when he denied Christ (Mark 14:66-72)
"I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God
unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also
to the Greek." Romans 1:16
The Proper Woman
By Megan H.
What Is the Proper Woman? How should she act? How should she dress? What
should her responsibility be in the house? I have thought a lot on
these questions lately. When you are younger you simply go about doing
as you are told, as the fifth commandment says:
"Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. Honor thy
father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise; That it
may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth."
Ephesians 5:24
Then when you become, lets say, 13-14 you are given more privileges. As
time goes on and you get to the age 14-15 you feel stuck. Should I be
acting older or not? Then once you reach the 15-16 you start wanting to
act older, being more independent, looking more mature, which is where I
am right now. So, I have been looking/searching the Bible for the
Proper woman , and I wanted to share with you what I found. First lets
look at what Solomon wrote in Proverbs. Proverbs is a very good book on
wisdom, but it also talks about what a woman's responsibilities should
be.
"Every wise woman buildeth her house: But the foolish plucketh it down with her hands."
Proverbs 14:1
"The heart of her husband doth safely trust her, so that he shall have
no need of spoil. She will do him good and not evil all the days of her
life. She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands.
She is like the merchants' ships; she bringeth her food from afar. She
riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and
a potion to her maidens. She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with
the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard. She girdeth her loins
with strength, and strengtheneth her arms. She perceiveth that her
merchandise is good: her candle goeth not out by night. She layeth her
hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff. She stretcheth out
her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy.
She is not afraid of snow for her household: for all her household are
clothed with scarlet. She maketh herself coverings of tapestry; her
clothing is silk and purple. Her husband is known in the gates, when he
sitteth among the elders of the land. She maketh fine linen, and selleth
it; and delivereth girdles unto the merchant. Strength and honor are
her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come. She openeth her
mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness. She looketh
well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of
idleness. Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also,
and he praiseth her. Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou
excellest them all. Favor is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman
that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised. Give her of the fruit of
her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates." Proverbs 31:
11-31
I do realize times have changed alot. There are things now that have
supposedly made life easier. when all it has really done is, how do I
put it, made people lazier.
"Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to
sleep: So shall thy poverty come as one that traveleth, and thy want as
an armed man." Proverbs 6: 10-11
Learn new things. Learn to weave rugs/blankets, sew, knit, crochet, etc.
These things may save you money later on. You can also sell the things
you have made.
"She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard."
Proverbs 31:16
Easter and What it Means
By Megan H.
I was just thinking the other day how much kids today see Easter as a
fun day. With plenty of egg finding and treats from the Easter bunny.
But how often do they think of Jesus during that day and what he did for
us. When I think of Easter or see Easter coming up on the calender a
certain verse pops into my mind:
"For God so loved the world, that He gave his only begotten Son, that
whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting
life." John 3:16
What is normally the first thing you think of? When you think of Jesus'
Crucifixion and Resurrection, Think of all the things he went through,
and why.
Pain, Suffering, and Humiliation:
"Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the common hall, and
gathered unto him the whole band of soldiers. And they stripped him, and
put on him a scarlet robe. And when they had platted a crown of thorns,
they put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand: and they bowed
the knee before him, and mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews. And
they spit upon him, and took the reed, and smote him on the head. And
after that they had mocked him, they took the robe off from him, and put
his own raiment on him, and led him away to crucify him."
Matthew 27:27-31
Death:
"Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost." Matthew 27:50
All for what? Us! What did we do to deserve such great mercy? Nothing.
That, is our Lord! He sovereign, loving, graceful, kind, holy, powerful,
but above all He is merciful. He came to this earth for one thing. To
die for us, to take our sins for us. Because the blood of sheep, goats,
bulls, etc. was not enough. And when He died the significance of the
veil taring(And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from
top to bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent; Matthew
27:51) was that burnt offerings were no longer needed. The blood of
Jesus Christ was enough. When He died He had finished his job on the
earth.
"When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished:
and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost." John 19:30
When you think of Easter I hope this is what comes to mind.
"And this is the promise that he hath promised us, even eternal life." 1 John 2:25
