As Christmas is Approaching, By Kaitlyn F.

As Christmas is Approaching

By Kaitlyn F.

As Christmas is approaching, we see joy being brought into the world in the form of a baby boy. Even though this event changed history, it wasn't smooth sailing to get to this point. For example, Joseph didn't even know what was happening until Mary was already pregnant. Matthew 1:18-19 says, "This is how the birth of Jesus came about: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be with child through the Holy Spirit. Because Joseph her husband was a righteous man and did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly."

Joseph didn't know the great things that were about to happen, like Mary did. When he heard the news, he wanted to divorce Mary, so that he wouldn't be married to someone who sleeps with another man. He was just doing what any normal, godly man would have done if he found his soon to be wife to be pregnant.

But the story doesn't end there. Verse 20 says, "But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, "Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit."

Even though Joseph wasn't the first one to be clued in about the good news, he was informed, and after that he did everything that he needed to do. Now this can also be reflected in our own lives. God may start something in our lives that we don't know about, and when we find out we might want to run away, like Joseph. But know this, God has a plan for everything in your life. Things might not make sense now, but when God reveals the whole plan, the pieces will fall into place.
