Can you put down the lies?
Can you put down...
all the thoughts you keep having - thoughts that contradict with God's truth.
all the things you are living by - thoughts that are the world's way of thinking.
These things are for people who have no hope. But you have hope!
Galatians
5:1 It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then,
and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.
Don't be trapped by the lies. Be set free in this hope that comes from God -
Psalm 16:11
You
have made known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in
your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.
Come to Him today - put down the lies.

Truth & Error

We
have to learn to recognize truth. We do this by reading the Bible some
each day so we know what it says. The Bible is God’s Word and is true.
We
can then recognize what is error. Error does not agree with what the
Bible says. It’s things that aren’t true. Some things aren’t clear as to
whether they are truth or error.
Some
things aren’t addressed outright in the Bible. But the principles are
applicable; that is, something in the Bible will be able to guide you
and will let you know what God says about it. Sometimes it’s just more
general, as in new technology that wasn’t around isn’t mentioned in the
Bible, but purity is.
Knowing
what is true and what is false clears the path for change. We can’t
change and be different if we don’t see that we’ve been believing
something that is a lie. God will show us what needs to change if we ask
Him to. He will change our lives!
To
change is to overcome, and build new. We are new when we’ve trusted
Christ because He washes our sins away and frees us from the grip sin
had on us.
Since we are free, we can have passion for God and for telling others how He freed us!
We can:
- Pass on! The knowledge
- Point out! The error
- Pray for! The change
Only God can change others. But we can, in love, pray for them.
We can also encourage people to keep on going when it is hard for them.
When
your friends or family are overcoming sin through Christ, don’t forget
to also encourage them to keep passing on the things they have learned,
and are learning! God will work through them like He works through you.
Lies We Believe

Sometimes while growing up, we are presented with statements that we
don't know what to do with, or that we end up convincing ourselves are
true. By reading God's Word for yourself, you'll be able to tell what's
true and what's a lie.
"I'm alone - no one cares about me."
If you find yourself feeling this way, look back at God's faithfulness to you in the past, and read this verse:
Deuteronomy 31:6
"Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of
them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor
forsake you."
"My sin is to big to be forgiven"
That's kind of like saying God isn't powerful enough to forgive your
sin, but we know He's conquered all sin and death! Refocus on the fact
that Jesus died for all sin, and nothing is more powerful than God, not
even death.
1 Corinthians 10:13
"No test or temptation that comes your way is beyond the course of what
others have had to face. All you need to remember is that God will never
let you down; he'll never let you be pushed past your limit; he'll
always be there to help you come through it."
Romans 8:38-39
"For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor
demons,[a] neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39
neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be
able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our
Lord."
"I just can't forgive myself."
The Bible never addresses us forgiving ourselves. We can't punish
ourselves to gain God's favor. It is not up to us to save ourselves; we
can only be saved by faith in what Jesus has done for us. God's
forgiveness is more than enough!
1 Peter 3:18
"For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the
unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but
made alive in the Spirit."
1 Corinthians 15:3-4
"That Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was
buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the
Scriptures."
"I can't do anything great for God."
This kind of thinking prohibits us from even trying to serve the Lord
sometimes! You can't do something big if you're not doing anything at
all. Don't let anyone or anything discourage you from following the
Lord.
1 Timothy 4:12
"Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an
example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and
in purity."
"No one else has ever been through this."
This lie often stops us from seeking God, from asking others for help,
and even from reaching out to others during hard times. Instead, we
should seek what God would have us do with our time and experiences.
Nothing surprises God, and it's very likely someone else has been
through something that will either help you, or you can help them come
to know God more through sharing how He's worked in you.
Ecclesiastes 1:8-10
All things are wearisome,
more than one can say.
The eye never has enough of seeing,
nor the ear its fill of hearing.
What has been will be again,
what has been done will be done again;
there is nothing new under the sun.
Is there anything of which one can say,
"Look! This is something new"?
It was here already, long ago;
it was here before our time.
"I deserve better."
Unless you're two years old, you should have learned that life isn't all
about what you want. You don't turn a magic age and just get to do
whatever you want, or have whatever you want. Good things take hard work
(like good grades, for example). God uses tests and trials to give us
things that are worth a lot - strong character, purity, peace, faith,
grace, and real love, for just a few examples. We don't deserve
anything, but He sure does give us a lot -
Romans 8:28-29
"And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love
him, who have been called according to his purpose. For those God
foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son,
that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters."
Romans 3:23
"For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."
Romans 6:23
"For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."
Lemons

One day, My mom was making a lemon cake for my dad. He loves them, and requested one for his birthday.
She'd run out of lemon juice, so she used a real lemon. But when she picked up the lemon, it was partly shriveled up.
I said to my mom, "It looks like it's rotten!"
She said, "No, it's still good." I have to admit, I doubted her from the
way the lemon looked. But she cut it in half, and to my surprise, the
lemon was perfect inside.
My mom said, "Looks can be deceiving." And that got me thinking. As Christians, sometimes we can be like that lemon.
Except opposite. We try and make ourselves look good on the outside. But in reality, we're not good on the inside.
Take for example how you act at church. You always act happy and
pleasant, right? Well, then how do you act at home? Do you argue with
your siblings? Talk back to your parents? Snap at someone when you're
stressed out?
Then why don't you do those things at church, and when you're out in public? It's because you don't want to look bad.
If you know you shouldn't be acting badly at church, then you know you shouldn't be acting that way at home, too.
Ephesians 4:31-32
Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:
And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.
